Newsletter - August 2009
Welcome to the summer issue of the Craft Arena newsletter. I know it’s not been as great weather-wise as we’d hoped, but at least that means more time to stitch and play – not so tempting to do other things when it’s raining cats and dogs outside!
I can’t believe it’s been such a long time since my last newsletter. We’ve had Sarah Lawrence and Gary Clarke in to do workshops, and I’m hoping to arrange more visiting tutors over the next few months.
I’ve also grown my stock in recent months, with some exciting new products. One of these is Rusting Powder from Craftynotions and you can see some of the results here. These samples were worked on calico using some of the new Craftynotions stamps.
Brother Sewing MachinesI am delighted to announce that I now stock Brother Sewing Machines.
I currently have three models to demonstrate, the Innov-is 10A, Innov-is 30, and the Innov-is QC 1000. I recommend that you try out a machine before you commit to a purchase and I can arrange for a test drive of most Brother models. I can order most Brother sewing machines for delivery within a few days.
Some of the most popular feet for Brother (and most Janome) sewing machines will shortly be in, together with bobbins - you can never have enough bobbins!
I can also offer servicing for most makes of sewing machines from £50. Please contact me for more information.
Workshops
I have enclosed a copy of my workshop programme up to the end of September. I’m working on some different techniques (including using Rusting Powder) which will hopefully be ready for autumn. To keep up to date with changes to the programme you can visit www.craftarena.co.uk/workshops.html or if you are not online, just give me a ring and ask for more details.
Barleylands
If you would like to make a day of your visit to Barleylands, you can find news of events at www.barleylands.co.uk. Some of the events happening over the next few months are:
- The Essex Country Show 12th and 13th September. This is the only weekend of the year that you have to pay to come into the Craft Village, but there is so much more going on! Visit www.essexcountryshow.co.uk for full details.
Adults £10, Senior Citizens £7, Children £5 - Spooky Night 30th October from 6.30 pm to 9 pm. Come and join us for an evening of scariness and fun. Get a fright in our Spooky Walk and take part in the ghastly games. Ride the ghost train then boogie the night away at the Spooky Night Disco.
£7 Adults, £6.50 Child - Craft Village Christmas Event 20th to 22nd November. We will be staying open until 8pm on Friday 20th November for a little retail therapy, and the Christmas lights will be switched on by a celebrity (to be confirmed). There will be a host of events throughout the weekend including a Farmer’s Market, school choirs, Father Christmas and lots, lots more. Our nominated charity this year is the Burned Children’s Club, so do come along and help us raise money for this worthwhile cause as well as having a great time. More details will be on my website nearer the time.
New Stock
- New colours in the Craftynotions Creative Colour Sprays – including a lovely Kingfisher Blue, and gorgeous Lippy Luscious Red.
- I’ve also got more wooden stamp blocks with some lovely designs.
- Jacquard iDye are for dyeing larger quantities of fabric and clothing. They come in ready mixed sachets that can be popped into your washing machine for natural fabrics, and also have a range for dyeing polyester.
- Jacquard Procion MX Dyes will be coming soon
- I’m hoping for more Goldwork threads shortly.
- I will also be supplying Acrylic Wax Medium and Matte Medium for preparing and finishing mixed media work.
Price increase
I’ve held the price of my Anchor Stranded Cottons as long as I can; there have been several price increases over the last 18 months which I’ve not passed on, but I do have to increase them now and from 1st September they will rise from 75p to 89p per skein. Why not pop in and stock up before the price increase?
Lucky Dip
I am having to make space for new stock and will be having a Lucky Dip Promotion during September. For £3 you will be able to buy a bag of creative goodies with a guaranteed retail value of at least £6. You won’t be able to see what you are buying, and some bags will have a little bit extra added. This promotion begins on 1st September and will continue while stocks last.
