Welcome to the Craft Arena website!

At Craft Arena we sell needlecraft, knitting, crochet, mixed media, craft supplies, Brother sewing machines, wool, threads, haberdashery, beads, craft books, gifts and textile art. You can access our online shop by clicking the Shop menu item above.

We have a wide range of Brother Sewing and Embroidery machines on demonstration, and offer a full personal consultation so that you can choose the right machine for you. We give FREE training on most machines.

We hold workshops and training classes in needlecraft, knitting, crochet, mixed media, printing and textile art design in our large workshop area. You can see details of upcoming workshops and training classes below or click here for a full list.

We showcase the work of local artists and design groups in frequently changing exhibitions in Alchemy, our dedicated Textile Art Gallery.

We publish a regular newsletter containing special offers, details of upcoming workshops and everything Craft Arena. If you would like to subscribe, simply click on the blue "Subscribe" icon below. Our newsletters are usually sent out weekly.

Craft Arena is upstairs at the Barleylands Craft Village, Billericay, Essex, Studios 49 - 51. We are open 10am - 5pm Tuesday to Saturday, and 10am - 4pm Sundays and most Bank Holidays.

Yarn Forward Wednesday 15th August

Wednesday, 15 August 2018 - 10:30am to 1:00pm

Our regular Yarn Forward knitting and crochet group.

Bring your own yarn work along to knit or crochet and if you have any challenges, there is sure to be someone here who can help.

For complete beginners, and those who are a bit more experienced, you can work that yarn and chat at the same time, and you always leave with a free gift!


Crochet for Beginners with Sue Broughton Saturday 18th August

Saturday, 18 August 2018 - 10:30am to 3:00pm

Sue will take you through the basics of crochet, showing you how to begin your work and form different stitches to create beautiful crochet items. Suitable for complete beginners and those wishing to refresh their skills.


PE Design Software Training: Line Work with Lisa Clark Sunday 19th August

Sunday, 19 August 2018 - 10:30am to 1:00pm

Whether you are new to designing for your embroidery machine, or you need a refresher, this training is for you.

Just bring a pen and paper to take notes! On this session Lisa will be showing how to design line work.

This class is for those who know the basics of PE Design. Ask about our next beginner's class.


Fabric Painting for Kids and Adults with Denise - Wednesday 22nd August

Wednesday, 22 August 2018 - 10:30am to 12:30pm

Bring your littlies along for a morning of fabric printing.

You will design and make your own printing blocks and use those to print onto a fabric book bag that you can show off at school!!

Children must be accompanied by an adult and the workshop is suitable for ages 6 and up.

Things could get a little messy! Please make sure your children wear suitable clothes

The cost of all materials is included in the workshop price.


Stitched Journal With Nick Kimber Saturday 25th August

Saturday, 25 August 2018 - 10:30am to 4:00pm

The next class by Nick will incorporate various stitching and colouring techniques to make a fabric journal which can be used as a sampler book for the stitched samples you make at Craft Arena workshops or for adding mementos and ideas of your own. Samples can be stitched into the pages of the book so that you can record your progress or you can use the book for finished designs. This project is suitable for those with basic embroidery and machine skills - no free motion work is used.


Machine Embroidery Group Sunday 2nd September

Sunday, 2 September 2018 - 10:30am to 1:00pm

A series of informal monthly sessions to help you get the most from your embroidery machine.

A different machine embroidery technique will be covered each month.

Bring along any challenges or questions you have, and there is bound to be someone here to answer them.
